@attorneyryan: Darth Dementia called a bunch of religious leaders (and Dr. Phil for some reason) to claim that “Separation of Church and State” is not constitutional. They are pushing to create a state-sponsored church that puts Trumps Version of Christianity above all other religions. It is expressly forbidden by the first amendment. What do you think of this?
The "separation of church and state" phrase originates from an 1802 letter written by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut. The Baptists were concerned about religious freedom, and Jefferson reassured them that the First Amendment built a "wall of separation between Church & State". [1, 2, 3]
While the phrase does not appear in the text of the Constitution, it has heavily influenced American law

A lot of people have misinterpreted what the Constitution is saying.
Here is what the Constitution says:
“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”
And Article VI also states that no religious test can be required for public office.
What this means is that the Constitution is setting limits on the government’s role in religion. It prevents the government from establishing an official religion, favoring one religion over another, or requiring religious belief as a condition for holding public office. At the same time, it protects an individual’s right to freely practice their religion.
Because of this, the Constitution is not stating that there must be a literal “separation of church and state” as a written rule. Instead, it establishes religious freedom for individuals and government neutrality in matters of religion.
The phrase “separation of church and state” itself comes from a later historical description used to summarize how this principle has been interpreted in practice, rather than language found in the Constitution.

Yea, there’s literally more to the constitution then the literal text that’s within in it because some of these amendments have their origins in British common law

"separation of church and state" comes from an 1802 letter written by Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptist Association in Connecticut, Jefferson famously used the metaphor of a "wall of separation between Church & State" to describe the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The phrase “separation of church and state” is not found in the Constitution. The First Amendment simply prevents the government from establishing a religion or interfering with an individual’s right to freely practice one. It protects both religious freedom and government neutrality, not the exclusion of religion from public life. The phrase comes from a letter from Thomas Jefferson.
