@thesparrowproject: The Long March was a military retreat undertaken by the Chinese Communist Red Army from 1934 to 1936 during the Chinese Civil War. Facing encirclement by Nationalist forces, Communist troops traversed approximately 9,000 km (5,600 mi) across some of China’s most rugged terrain, including the snow-capped mountains of western Sichuan, the grasslands of Zoigê, and the valleys of the Dadu River. Though suffering severe losses, the march enabled the survival of the Chinese Communist movement and contributed to the rise of Mao Zedong as its paramount leader.
