Growing up my parents wanted me to have what they didn’t and I was almost always the only person of color everywhere I went. It wasn’t comfortable and I didn’t want that. I experienced racism and I always felt like I was less than because of how I was treated. Bottom line, I have faith in humanity and not every white person is a racist but I never let my daughter be the only black girl in the room because that is not how the world is. We can all do better by learning and being kind. Being kind takes way less energy than being mean, plus it makes you feel good.
