Save this. Pick the room that scares you and stand in it for 30 days. #dangerouslyeducated #learning #SelfImprovement #mentalmodels
Although light travels through space at nearly 300,000 kilometers per second, it still takes measurable time to reach every planet in our Solar System. Sunlight arrives at Mercury in about 3.2 minutes, Venus in roughly 6 minutes, and Earth in 8 minutes and 20 seconds, meaning we always see the Sun as it existed several minutes ago rather than in real time. As distances increase, the travel time becomes even more remarkable. Sunlight reaches Mars in about 12.5 minutes, Jupiter in 43 minutes, Saturn in around 1 hour and 20 minutes, Uranus in approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, Neptune in about 4 hours, and Pluto after nearly 5 hours and 30 minutes. These delays highlight the enormous scale of our Solar System. Every observation of the universe is also a glimpse into the past because light needs time to travel across space. Whether looking at our Sun, distant planets, or faraway galaxies, astronomers are studying objects as they appeared when their light first began its journey toward Earth.
