He says it out loud: for two weeks, let's just be honest with each other. Then he does the hardest part — he waits for the answer. Most of us skip that. We want something, stay quiet, hope, and the silence becomes “evidence” that our partner doesn't care. Shane names the expectation instead, and gives it room to actually be met. Expressing an expectation gives it a chance. Unexpressed expectations just become evidence against the people we love.
