@stockweatherman: Replying to @BigAL Do not dollar cost average. This is a hill I will die on. Lump sum investing, in upward trending assets, and avoiding dips where you don’t know when or where the bottom is at, is much safer. Unless you can GUARANTEE me that the broad market will go up my entire life, which you can’t, save your speech. #dca #dollarcostaveraging #terrible #investor #indexfundinvesting
You can’t compare those markets to the s&p, Dow, that’s a ridiculous comparison.

Aren’t you the guy who has been saying the market is going to severely crash for like the last 5 years?

Guys, don’t DCA. Just buy when your crystal ball tells you you’ll make money. This is very easy. 😂

Once asked my advisor the difference between dollar cost averaging and good money after bad. He didn’t like the question.

You’re coming at this from the perspective of you just started investing. Of course if you start at 64 and ready to retire, a market dip is gonna kill that dream. But if you started at 30 and are up 12,000 or 20,000% a 40% drop is nothing! That’s why DCAing is your best friend as long as you buy companies you truly believe in!

also depends if you are investing as you earn or Dca from a large cash reserve. nothing wrong with investing (DCA) with every paycheck

That’s the whole point of DCA, is to buy on the way down as well…do you suggest we time the market instead? I’d rather sleep at night comfortably

For the average person DCA is certainly the best choice. Different people have different risk tolerances. ROI isn’t the only factor. Consistent DCA is better than lump sum and then panic selling, which most people tend to do.

If US markets crash and never recover it’s the end of the world anyway. In the mean time, I’m DCA’ing. What other choice do we have? Real estate? Super illiquid. Crypto shtt-coins? I’ll stick with what’s tried and true.
