@amaracarisb: Andrea Yates’ story has always stayed with me because it highlights how devastating gaps in women’s mental health care can be. She suffered from severe postpartum psychosis, and her case exposed how much more research, education, and awareness were needed for conditions affecting women. Dr. Mohammed Saeed was also my psychiatrist, and I personally felt that he didn’t help me either. My own family has also been deeply affected by these issues. My mom struggled with severe depression while also trying to find answers for her perimenopause. She saw a psychiatric nurse practitioner the day before she died by suicide, and despite seeking help from multiple healthcare providers, she still wasn’t getting better. I can’t know every factor that led to her death, but watching how her and I desperately search for answers and still fall through the cracks reinforced my belief that women’s health- including menopause and women’s mental health- has historically not received the research, education, and attention it deserves, EVER. That’s one of the reasons I’m so passionate about improving women’s healthcare. #womenshealth #womenshealthcare #womensrightsarehumanrights #feminism #feminist
