Ummmmmm........ The dealership is always going to make a profit, so you really can't use that as a basis. So honestly given what most people are able negotiate, they did pretty good.

I don’t understand why people trade cars in dealerships, unless you want to move some negative equity. You are guaranteed to lose money and selling a car privately honestly isn’t an issue, a bit of a hassle sure, but nothing out of this world.

My truck booked at 12k, I walked in wanting 10k. I didn’t want anything outrageous. They tried 8k, I walked out. They ended up giving me the 10k I wanted. They advertised my new truck at 29k, waked out paying 27k. Overall pretty happy with the deal. My brother works as a salesman, he said the best deals are the ones where both sides feel a little happy and a little disappointed. I wanted a bit more off the it the door price, but I got what I wanted for my truck.

Talked a brand new F-150 4x4 down almost $7,000 off the original OTD price with no trade, no money down, 4% APR, and a 60 month loan. It took 5 days of negotiating. Best time to buy? End of the month, end of the quarter, or end of the year. Dealers are often trying to hit sales goals. As for no down payment? I preferred keeping my cash instead of tying it up in a depreciating asset. If hail, a tree limb, or another accident affects the truck’s value, I’d rather still have that money available than have it locked into the vehicle. Don’t walk into a dealership focused only on the monthly payment. Negotiate the out the door price first, then discuss financing. If you’ve got basic dealership questions or want negotiation tips DM me. I’ll help if I can.

🙄That's one of the many reasons I buy used and private, almost never from a dealer.

Great way to articulate these points that consumers miss! Not to mention if they buy warranties and other products for $1,000s over they’re worth

The dealership doesn’t have to sell you a car. 99% of the time, they do the deal because they’re making the money they wanna make from SOME part of the deal

1988 jeep Cherokee constant belt squeak. Replaced belt. No tensioner as the tension is placed with the power steering pump. Goes away when I adjust it, but comes back after a week.

That’s why when you have a kbb of 11 you tell them you have it at 13 and a carmax offer of 12.5. And do more market research on your target car

We NEVER, I repeat, NEEEEVER buy a car the first time we see it. I’ve also never taken less than book value on a trade. Get their “best” OTD offer and leave. They will always call you wanting to negotiate. Then, you ultimately have the upper hand.

that probably doesn't include the money the dealer made from the financing

Honestly, that still IS a good deal. Just because the dealership didn't loose money on you, doesn't mean you didn't make a good deal. Dealerships can sell used cars over market value because buyers feel safer buying from them, and they are the only source of new cars. If you sold the car to a dealership THAT close to p2p market value, that's a damn good deal. And buying a new one a good chunk under the sticker price is also a good deal
