Not saying that she was right by not checking to make sure the gate was locked but the daycare should have some liability. There should be more safety measures and better gates and fences where a child can not easily run out. Especially when a teacher has multiple children they’re looking after at once.

When I worked in a daycare we had a designated person who's job was to check the playground every morning. We also had carabineers on the locks, so that when we got outside we could easily open the gates in case of emergency but the kids couldn't manipulate the locks and open them. We had to do playground checks before anyone went on the playground!

I feel bad for her but as the adult she had the responsibility of making sure everything was safe. They should add a lock to the gate that way you know it’s lock and needs a key to unlock.

Sounds like there should have been 2 teachers on the play ground instead of one. Even if that class was in ratio another teacher could have assisted with monitoring those babies.
