Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has defended the Federal Government’s grassroots empowerment programmes, saying Nigerians do not always need huge capital to start small businesses and earn a living. Speaking on the impact of the Renewed Hope Initiative, she explained that the financial support being distributed is designed as grants, not loans, to help vulnerable groups and petty traders gain economic footing. Mrs. Tinubu cited roadside ventures such as frying akara, roasting corn and selling kuli-kuli as examples of businesses that can be started with modest resources. She urged beneficiaries to take advantage of available opportunities, remain hopeful and embrace self-reliance, stressing that small enterprises can serve as a stepping stone to greater economic stability.
