@whimsykinsey: Milly did fantastic as Kara I refuse to hear anyone talk trash about her performance. Yes this movie was disjointed and focused far too much on her time in space rather than her time on Earth not fitting in but overall it wasn’t terrible, just underwhelming. #supergirl

I saw someone say it’s a cover Clark added to Kara’s playlist thinking she’d like it and now I love the song

because nobody knows how to dissect narrative elements anymore 😭 listen to the lyrics, notice how the camera pans around ruthye while supergirl is fighting off everybody surrounding her. “little girl you’re in the middle of the ride, everything will be just fine” is from ruthye’s perspective, it’s not the song for kara. as much as I love the original song’s rock sound, the cover works for ruthye because she is young and naive and she is watching, looking up to a strong woman. you just don’t see the vision of having a light song over an intense slow-mo fighting scene. critical analysis is what 12 years of english class teaches you to do this scene with this song was one of the most emotional moments in the movie for me

it's not the song, it's just the cursive singing 😭

its not the song choice that's bad its the specific cover and the cursive singing

Because you're viewing as a scene all about Kara fighting when it's actually a scene about Ruthye being saved

I get what it was going for. It was supposed to feel like a release of tension rather than a high energy needle drop

that’s genuinely all i could think in this scene, it was useless and a copy of the mr incredible scene, they shouldve used a song like “call me”

Idk what y’all are saying this song doesn’t fit cause all y’all are saying “this song doesn’t fit” with no actual reasoning. It’s a woman’s cover of an already existing rock song, in a movie about a woman superhero that people refer to as the girl version of an already existing superhero. And you don’t have to understand it to enjoy it.

I disagree I think it did fit. The main theme of the song is “everything’s gonna be alright” in that moment Kara realized things will be okay. Ruthie while grieving her parents is going to be okay it just “takes some time” I think it was a great song choice for that moment

I think no one understands at least my criticism of this which is the COVER is bad. Yes I get how it fits lyrically and I agree!! You could have gone with the original song or if you wanted it to be female led keep the pop punk elements of it. This was just too cutesy for the scene

It wasn't a fight scene. There was fighting in it but there was not supposed to be tension there. The outcome of the fight even in a narrative sense was never supposed to be in doubt. The scene was the crowning achievement, it was Kara's ascension.

can't y'all listen and see? it's metaphorical and it fits well goddamnit, it's the same as with the superman and "punkrocker" but different. cause it's a different character. and different movie. song is literally reflects both Cara and Ruthie's trauma and how one protects another. i thought it was cute and emotional cause it wasn't about how supergirl is strong n cool, i think "call me" would make this scene very flat. it was about choosing to care for someone and also being cared of by "big sister" figure from the Ruthie's perspective. Ruthie was very parentified and carrying adult burdens due to the d of her caregivers. taking hard adulthood battles she possibly can't win cause she's just a child. That's why it was even more emotional and important for both of the characters that Cara's taking care of her and being Ruthie's protector in this scene.
I don't understand why y'all want a little to no sense banger in this scene when the whole story was about childhood/teenage trauma and that you didn't have to deal with it alone.
