@funnelvision: Parables aren't just memorable stories. They were invitations!! When Jesus' disciples asked why He spoke in parables, Jesus pointed back to Isaiah 6. Every one of us is ultimately moving toward one of two prayers: "Thy will be done." Or... "My will be done." The same message can reveal 2 different hearts. Scripture is remarkably consistent on this theme and the fact that God doesn't force anyone to love Him. He invites us into a relationship with Him. An invitation is an open door, but we have to choose whether we'll walk through it. The irony is that many of us think we know what will satisfy us. We want life on our own terms. We want all the benefits of God's design without God Himself. But until we genuinely seek Him, we don't even realize what we're missing. I know, I was there!!! At the end of John 9, Jesus tells the Pharisees: "If you were blind, you would not have guilt, but now that you say "We see", your guilt remains." He isn't saying ignorance makes someone righteous. He's exposing the Pharisees pride. Jesus came so the spiritually blind could receive sight. But the people who believed they already "saw", clearly refused the One who could actually open their eyes. The problem was that they were convinced they didn't need Jesus to see at all. I also used to think that!! Jesus came into the world so the spiritually blind, could see. That's one reason the parables are so profound. They weren't just stories. They were invitations for those willing to lean in. The curious asked questions. The humble sought understanding. Others heard the same words and walked away. Just like John 6:66 ... (an interesting verse number, even if it's just a coincidence.😅) So I'll leave you with one question...
