Honestly I have my positives and negatives of both Trotsky and Stalin. Trotsky was sometimes right, but also wrong to. Same goes with Stalin. The best way to go about it though is to use what worked and learn from what failed.

I think the most damning fact about Trotsky is the way he completely reversed his rhetoric about "Lenin's Testament" as soon as it was politically convenient for him. In 1925 he confirmed that Lenin left no "Testament," and what people were actually referring to was a set of private letters to the Party Congress that everyone there read and considered when they decided to re-elect Stalin. But years later, he changed his mind and said the letters were in fact a "Testament" that was "suppressed," also reversing his position on Max Eastman, who he had ruthlessly criticized for lies about the letters in 1925.

Sioc was proven to be a failure though. I don't subscribe to any "house" personally, but like to take the best of all systems. Trotsky was proven right as far as permanent revolution is concerned - even MLs will state Stalin's biggest mistaking was "stopping at Berlin". You can see Sioc brought about the sino-soviet split, you can see Sioc brought about the break with Yugoslavia who wanted to support Greek communists. The idea that you can only dedicate all resources to your own country to be strong is nearly purely reactive, as though offering 1-3% of GDP to export revolution would've destroyed your nation? Instead Stalin's Sioc allowed the allies to regroup after WW2, form NATO and encroach their European arm of imperialism upon the soviets ultimately leading to the dissolution of the USSR. To argue otherwise is simply not Marxist. This is why I don't align with MLs as they frequently act like everything Stalin did was right/justified and they poo poo competing theories at the time even though the competing theories were ultimately proven to be more right that what played out instead.

I identify myself as a Trot but that's purely because his writings have, for me at least, been the easiest to digest. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the critique and the input of not trots (as opposed to anti trot because I can't stand the tit for tat of it) because it furthers my communist education and there's always so much more to learn

Im really new to socialism and have seen many creators denounce Stalin as a deviation away from socialism, some even calling Stalinism its own system separate from actual socialism and more closely related to "state capitalism" (a term which I dislike to begin with, it feels very much like a PSYOP to me but idk, that's a different subject). I think people do this to deflect criticism for the numerous compromises (and to be fair, his reactionary politics as well, like calling homosexuality a capitalist perversion and Jazz capitalist music when it isn't most certainly working class art) he had to make in the building of actually existing socialism, do you have any take on this?

Trotsky did not fail to recognize the revolutionary potential of the peasantry, rather, he argued they could not act as an independent, leading political force. His Theory of Permanent Revolution asserted that in less-developed countries, the working class must seize power, rally the peasant masses behind them, and immediately push toward socialism.

marxist theory feels kinda complete. we keep seeing the same contradictions over and over, the same critiques are then used over and over. I feel as though we have reached the limits of Capitalism and are just waiting for the pot to boil over. Obviously, capitalists arent even employing any new strategies, theyre recycling arguements that are 70 years old at this point.

My problem with Trotskyism is that they want to achieve a global revolution to quickly and that would never work take for example Che tried to do the same and look at what happened to him also if Trotsky controlled the union and tried to achieve this global revolution with the conditions and such than the Soviet Union most likely would have been killed within the first few years of existence

Trotsky was literally a Menshevik for 6 months, his critiques of pre revolution Bolsheviks are the same as Lenin and Krupskaya, permanent revolution isn’t about internationalism (it does comes from it naturally, but that’s not what it’s about) it’s the idea that working classes must act independently and overthrow their oppressors, you act like Trotsky didn’t think it was necessary to defend the workers state, but why did he lead the red army then? And on the last slide you’ve just taken a Lenin quote out of context and used it to justify your own nonsense, this is a pathetic post even by ml standards

Although Trotsky was initially a Menshevik, he quickly aligned himself with the Bolsheviks, eventually becoming—in Lenin's words—"the most Bolshevik of the Bolsheviks". Lenin even embraced Trotsky's theory of permanent revolution, basing his own April Theses upon it. Furthermore, Trotsky supported the smychka; he was simply the first to warn of the "Scissors Crisis," a stance that speaks to his credit. As for the international revolution, he was ultimately proven prophetically right, having foreseen the dictatorship of the bureaucracy and the impossibility of a socialist state surviving within a global economy that remained entirely capitalist. Moreover, the concept of "socialism in one country" completely betrays Marx's own ideal: "Workers of the world, unite!"
