It also helps them understand the amount of work involved in being a true expert in something. They realize the amount of work it took them to remember that one fact and then multiply it by everything required to get a phd in a subject. Unfortunately the internet has made it too easy for people to think they know a subject in depth when they really don 't

I would believe you’re building neural pathways in memorization. I do know they have done studies about handwriting retaining more info in the brain than typing does.

What he said is not at all correct. Even if information is available online that doesn't mean it is always accessible. And it saves time! For my job I have to reference a lot of Federal Regulations daily, if I didn't have the title and context of information memorized I would waste hours of productive time every day trying to find it on line (and no it is not as simple as doing a search).

I have really bad ADHD. I wish someone had told me all of this in middle and high school, because it would have shifted my perspective on learning so much. I’ve always struggled with memory and being like “I’m never gonna use this, so why bother?” No one ever explained it to me, not like this. And I wish they had. It makes so much sense. My memory has gotten a lot worse over the years for various health reasons, but if I can remember this at least, I feel like things will be a little easier. Thank you for this.
