@bookswithamanda212: Episode 2 of my podcast was dropped last night and in this episode, I’m able to talk in much more depth and complexity about anti-intellectualism. I break it down into two components and talk about how the average person has a hand to play in why right wing politicians are able to weaponize anti-intellectualism as a tool of propaganda so easily. And then I discuss the hand that the institution of academia has played as well by allowing mistrust to be bred and fostered due to the history of pervasive elitism, classism, ableism, racism, and sexism within its walls. I would recommend reading the book The Death of Expertise after the podcast to help supplement further understanding of how people are encouraged to embrace a narcissistic view on their own intelligence and knowledge comparing it to the extensive training and education received by experts. Couple that with my view on intellectual insecurity and intellectual arrogance and I think we learn the “why” quite easily, but not without holding the institution of academia accountable as well. #antiintellectualism #intellectualism #democrats #philosophy #progressive
