@dallasgadberry: Bird on the street is that the wood stork has had one of the biggest comebacks in conservation. 

In the 1980s, there were only about 5,000 nesting pairs left in the U.S., and the species was listed as federally endangered. Thanks to decades of wetland conservation and habitat restoration, that number has more than doubled to over 10,000 nesting pairs today. 

In 2014, the wood stork was downlisted from federally endangered to threatened and then in 2026 another milestone was reached when the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service officially removed the Southeast U.S. population of the wood stork from the Endangered Species Act after determining it had recovered. #birdfacts #birdsoftiktok #stork #woodstork #conservation
