I was interviewing author Nghi Vo on her Gatsby revisionary fantasy book The Chosen and the Beautiful. She talked about how as an adult, she realized Daisy was implied to have been traumatized by the “twilight sleep” birth that was apparently touted as a wonderful invention that erases all the pain and you wake up with your baby in your arms.

the first time I heard about this was om the rookie where Angela asks why can't we just do the twilight sleep thing they did back in the 90s and nyla responds I asked it's grossly unethical it's very crazy that someone's grandmother could have went through this it shows how little women are treated in health care

It’s actually a little bit worse than just these details, when that advocate for twilight sleep birth passed away the association tried desperately to bury it and even went as far as calling her a “weak constitution woman”

I’m 22 weeks and the appeal of a pain-free birth sounds glorious. It’s unfortunately just not realistic even if you can’t remember the birth. I’m sure those women lived with unconscious trauma for the rest of their lives because they were sold a lie💔💔

Sidebar: kind of interesting how Bella had a mixture of Morphine and Vampire Venom and it had a similar effect where she experienced the pain, but was also severed from expressing it, only to wake up as a vampire , doomed to forget most of it

Wouldn’t this be all surgery? Every time they put you out? You literally can’t be awake for most surgeries because of risk of shock.

okay, why not use less seripus dose of opioids? the impact on the baby shpuld be minimal from one time semi-exposure so why dont they get some oxy ?
