@bespokecareers: "I like specifying things from people I know." You can read the whole house off that line. The gate was made by Mika Utzon-Popov, an artist and a friend. It's bronze, shaped into vines with the handles built in. Over time the patina deepens both from opening and closing, and passers by running their hands across it. The gate coming alive. The bricks comes from Krause Bricks in Stawell, near where Adam grew up. They were rejected from the Phoenix project over the colour, sent back, then brought up again for the house. The bricks that broke in transit got turned on edge for the base, set against the heritage sandstone next door. Look closely and there's a Frank Lloyd Wright detail in the brickwork: raked horizontal joints, flush verticals, pulling the facade longer. Adam Haddow (SJB) at home in Surry Hills.
