@mommagabb0: Kids who stay calm during big emotions usually have parents who intentionally teach emotional regulation. 1. Name emotions before they explode. "I can see your body getting tense. Are you feeling frustrated?" Helping kids identify feelings early makes them easier to manage. 2. Create a calm-down corner. A cozy space with pillows, books, or sensory toys that's a safe place to reset— not a punishment. 3. Be intentional with screen time. Choose calm, slow-paced, educational apps (our favorite is Pok Pok) over fast-paced, overstimulating content. Without constant dopamine hits, kids often lose interest naturally, making screen time feel a lot less like a battle. 4. Model emotional regulation. Say things like, "I'm feeling stressed, so I'm going to take three deep breaths." Kids learn by watching you. 5. Use emotion coaching. Instead of "Stop crying," try, "I see you're really upset. These big feelings are hard. Let's figure this out together." 6. Validate feelings first. "You're really angry your tower fell down. That's so frustrating." Validation comes before problem-solving. Start teaching these skills before age 8, while emotional regulation is still developing. The biggest mistake parents make is trying to teach regulation during the meltdown instead of practicing when kids are calm. The goal isn't kids who never feel big emotions-it's kids who know how to work through them. #toddlermom #momlife #momtips #toddlerideas #motherhood partner w pok pok

We shouldn’t strive for our kids to NEVER have meltdowns. Meltdowns are ok. It’s how we help our children through the meltdown that matters and what creates emotional intelligence

My kids are going to be 5 and 6 and we were able to not have one public meltdown. Not sure how, but we managed and I’m so thankful
