Unfortunately, genetics has a lot to do with weight-loss. As well as other health issues and various medications. A calorie deficit is not the only way to lose weight, nor is it the best way.

You can also shred fat while eating at maintenance or above. It's not the calories that matter, as they mean nothing at all, but rather the macros of what you eat. eating 2k calories in carbs is going to have much different effect than eating 2k calories in fat and protein. When you don't eat carbs at all, calories don't matter, as you cannot overeat.

that's not really the point sugar triggers you to want to eat more even diet drinks trigger it you cut junk food because it breaks wills and offers nothing to actually keep the body running on less calories.
