@atrium.med.nyc: What are moles? 🟤 Moles are clusters of pigment-producing skin cells called melanocytes. Most are harmless. Some are flat, some are raised, some are brown, tan, pink, or almost skin-colored. They can be there from childhood or appear later over time. ☀️ The important part is knowing when a mole deserves attention. Use the ABCDE rule: 🔍 A: Asymmetry One half does not match the other. 🔍 B: Border Edges are uneven, jagged, or blurry. 🔍 C: Color Multiple colors or sudden darkening. 🔍 D: Diameter Larger than a pencil eraser, especially if changing. 🔍 E: Evolving Changing size, shape, color, itching, bleeding, or looking different from your other moles. Most moles are not dangerous. But melanoma can sometimes look like “just a mole,” which is why changes matter. 🧴 Know your skin. Check your moles.
