In fact they are meant to do the opposite, to make the viewer symphasize with the intro and ask themselves the question "would this have turned out differently if he/she was attractive?" Looks heavily influence your life. In an ideal world they wouldn't, but this world is not ideal. And for most people understanding this causes more improvement than harm.
