As the simulated earthquake begins, one building rocks violently while the other remains remarkably stable, making the difference immediately visible. The stable model sits on Friction Pendulum System bearings, which allow the foundation to slide across curved surfaces instead of transferring the full ground motion into the structure. Friction absorbs part of the seismic energy, and gravity naturally returns the building to its centered position after the shaking stops. Friction Pendulum Systems are used in earthquake prone regions to protect hospitals, bridges, airports, and other critical infrastructure. This was used in a hotel i stayed in. A catastrophic earthquake hit us, but instead of minimizing damage, it took longer for the shaking to end because the building didnt settle as fast as expected.
