In many special forces selection trainings they tell you to go down to the bottom and stay there until they tap you out and they basically let you drown to see if you would disobey a command when there’s a chance of you dying. If you come up early they ask if you were tapped and if not you have to go back down and do it again or you fail selection. It’s even done in Belgian elite police units training in some fucked up but also surprisingly efficient way to prove you are willing to die without actually dying

When I was in law enforcement, we had a Navy SEAL go into a bar and he tore that place up. He was so drunk he could barely speak. It took eight of us to get him turned over to cuff him. That was only accomplished when my Sgt. fell on his chest and knocked the breath out of him. That was in Wilmington, NC. I walked away with a huge respect for the SEALS. I could only imagine what that would have been if he was sober. Y’all are top notch badassery.
