@nicki.odom.diy: Some places don’t just hold memories. ☀️ They hold versions of you. This beach knew me long before I knew I’d become a wife, a mom, or spend my days working on DIY projects, spaces for others to gather, and reasons for those gatherings. Today I dusted off the same surfboard I rode in high school and college, and watched my girls search for shells where I once chased waves. It’s funny how life changes. The waves look the same. The shoreline feels the same. But now the greatest adventure isn’t catching the next set, it’s seeing the ocean through their eyes. Maybe growing up isn’t leaving the old version of yourself behind, like it often tends to feel. Maybe it’s inviting her to come along. I reminisced a good bit on the Wrightsville beach shores today and thought about that young girl who loved chasing waves. She’s absolutely still in there. Paddling out may have been more of a task than it used to be, but that girl is still in there. Here’s to salt in our hair, sand between our toes, and raising girls who know the joy of slowing down long enough to notice the beauty God painted right in front of us. 🌊
