I grew up calling them lightening bugs. Haven't seen any since I moved away from my family farm almost 12 years ago. I'm at a training in Pennsylvania and they're everywhere behind the hotel and I was so happy

One year my parents didn’t mow their lawn after winter and fireflies were everywhere. Once they had time to mow, the fireflies disappeared. I asked them not to mow the whole yard anymore and fireflies are everywhere 🥰

They used to be everywhere growing up in VT. You could drive by any field at night and see them sparkling. Climate change has stolen from us and our children’s children in ways we cannot begin to comprehend

I once drove by an actual castle in Kentucky at dusk and the entire field leading up to it was SPARKLING with fireflies. It looked exactly how you're thinking it did. Absolutely magical.
