As a journalist, it is disappointing to hear someone speak so confidently about a country while openly admitting they know nothing about it. Bosnia and Herzegovina has a rich history, culture, and resilient people. It existed as a medieval kingdom centuries before the United States was founded, and its identity did not begin or end with Yugoslavia. Bosnia and Herzegovina has produced world-class athletes who compete in many of Europe’s top football leagues, earning respect through talent and hard work. Before dismissing an entire nation, take the time to learn about its people, its history, and its contributions. If you want to continue being a credible journalist, curiosity and education should come before stereotypes and ignorance. Journalism is about informing people, not celebrating a lack of knowledge. As the saying goes: “They tried to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds.” Bosnia and Herzegovina has survived empires, war, and genocide. It has endured far more than careless comments, and its people continue to rise with dignity, resilience, and pride.
