The stage's name is the French pronunciation of "sunlight". It is also a play on [ 1-4: CLAIR DE LUNE ], the level containing V2's first encounter. The name itself is based off of Claude Debussy's "Clair De Lune", which is the French pronunciation of "moonlight". The Chamber of the Feline and the Rodent was originally named "The Chamber of Dreams" in the tablet in [ 4-3: A SHOT IN THE DARK ] but was changed for convenience. This level along with [ 7-4: ...LIKE ANTENNAS TO HEAVEN ] are currently the only climax levels that contains enemies outside of boss encounters. This level introduces the [+COUNTERRICOSHOT] prefix to the [+RICOSHOT] Style Bonus when V2's coins get ricoshotted. There's also an [+ULTRACOUNTERRICOSHOT] version for ricoshotting with anything that isn't the Revolver's primary fire. Hakita has stated numerous times that V2 is, quote, "fucking dead" in this level upon people asking whether or not it would return. And they also made a quite infuriated remark about his comeback - 'RECONSTRUCTS WHAT??? There's NOTHING left.'. According to Hakita during the "ULTRAKILL IMPERFECT HATRED" soundtrack premiere, "'Duel' is the loudest song on the soundtrack. I tried mixing it at a normal volume but it always felt too weak, so I let it just stay clipping and maxed out." It was also "made a couple days before the update was to come out, which is why it originally just awkwardly cut off after the splat." Chamber of the Feline and the Rodent On the right-hand side of the first room after the first Bounce Pad, a Blue Skull is visible through a gap between the doors. Picking it up using the Whiplash will open the doors, allowing access to the chamber as well as a shortcut to the throne room. Inside the room is a fountain with a skull pedestal in the middle. On the left and right wall from the pedestal are murals of the Feline and the Rodent. Throne Room A large chamber with a throne, and four periodically raising and dropping pillars. V2 can be seen sitting on the throne, and attempting to approach will trigger the fight. Once defeated, V2 will break through the wall, transitioning to the second phase.
