Milking a cow is not always easy, but here at our mini-farm, we take pride in the process and the end result. Every day, twice a day, we bring our cows into the stanchion, where they enjoy some feed while we get to work. The first step is to clean each teat with warm water and soap, followed by an iodine dip to ensure that everything is sanitary. We then carefully strip each teat by hand, not only to check for signs of infection but also to stimulate milk production. Once everything is clean and ready to go, we turn on our trusty generator and the milking machine and get to work. After the milk has been collected, we run it through a filter to ensure that it is free of any impurities. From there, we pour it into food-grade jugs for easy dispensing and run it through another filter to ensure its purity. Finally, we place the jugs in the fridge and cool the milk to 40 degrees, ready for consumption. It's a labor-intensive process, and there are days when I just don't want to go outside and face the early morning chill. But we believe in the quality of the product we are providing to our community. We see it as a service to an area in great need of fresh, wholesome milk.🐄 So next time you pour yourself a glass of milk, think about the journey it took to get to your fridge.
