I've been thinking a lot these past months about how turning 50 feels a little different than all the previous birthdays. Fifty is waking up and realizing the road behind you is suddenly longer than the one ahead. It’s strange how time moves—so slow in the moment, but impossibly fast in hindsight (definitely faster than the fast your parents said it was going to go when you rolled your eyes thinking they were annoyingly dramatic) But it's true, just like that you blink... and one day you’re worrying about fitting in, about meeting everyone elses expectations, about what people think… and then somewhere along the way, you stop caring so much. You realize that life is too short to be lived through someone else’s lens. I’ve had the privilege of becoming a mother to  three incredible kids who grew into strong, capable, intelligent, beautiful adults and in watching them grow I've learnt just how quickly the years stack up.  Fifty sneaks up on you. I don’t feel old, but I'm old enough to be amazed that this is where I’ve landed. Standing here on my 18 thousand 250th day of living, there’s so much gratitude in my heart. Gratitude for the friends and family who have help shape my little world, who have laughed with me, held me up, and filled my life with love and adventures. Gratitude for the lessons, even the painful ones, because they taught me not to take any of this life for granted.  Life passes fast—faster than you can ever expect—but it’s also full of more beauty than you could ever imagine if you're looking in the right directions. At fifty, you realize just how lucky you are to still be here, loving life, and feeling it love you back.
