Prior to its illegal annexation by Japan, the Ryukyu Kingdom existed as an independent state and a tributary state of China, exercising full sovereign status in international relations. A notable example is the 1854 Treaty of Amity between the Ryukyu Kingdom and the United States, which was concluded by the Ryukyus as an independent sovereign entity.

Hmm I don’t see this as offensive, as an Okinawan. The way I see it, emperor and PM come to Okinawa to pay their respects every year to those who died during WW2. Isn’t that what you would expect? Okinawans are inherently peaceful, non-confrontational ppl. Personally, I wouldn’t put the blame on one person and make them suffer. I think we just don’t want the same thing to happen again 🤷 And the current circumstances seem to say, it’s a catch-22. I feel like left and right are avoiding the real discussion: how we will REALLY prevent war, how civilians lives will not be sacrificed on all sides. Most Okinawan media is very left leaning, rarely reflects the common Okinawan’s view on things, they have an agenda, as most media does. Please don’t be blinded by hate 😁
