Ever heard of the oshiya? It roughly translates to “pushers” in Japanese – you’ll find them in the Tokyo metro. These uniformed staff with white gloves mostly became a thing in the 60s, when trains were packed beyond limits. Their job? Pushing people into the train so the doors could close during rush hour. You don’t see them as often today (trains are longer and the system’s better), but during rush hour, you might still catch station staff “helping” people get in. Just to give you an idea: some lines run at 200% capacity. That means: you fit in, but you can’t move. That’s where the little “push” comes in 😉 PS: how cute is that man smiling as they push him in? ➡️ www.weroad.com 📹️ @bestpartofworld #weroad #weroaders #grouptrip #metro #oshiya #japan
