UK Lovers Rock has produced some timeless classics, and “I Adore You” is undoubtedly one of those songs that never grows old. Now, it has been reimagined and reworked by My Boyz Beatz and Miss Aliya. Miss Aliya, a talented singer-songwriter from the USA with a genuine passion for music, first gained wider recognition after appearing on American Idol in 2019, which gave her an important platform to showcase her talent. Following that exposure, she was invited to work with several independent producers, one of them being My Boyz Beatz. Together, they have collaborated on several projects, including a reinterpretation of the iconic Jean Adebambo classic “Paradise.” In my personal opinion, it is a brilliant reinterpretation of the song. Miss Aliya and My Boyz Beatz have taken the massive Lovers Rock hit “I Adore You,” originally made famous by Sandra Cross, and successfully brought it into the 21st century with a fresh rhythm and soulful vocals. For me, it really works. No doubt some people will voice their opinions about this new take on such a well-loved classic, but I would like to point out that having the younger generation embrace Lovers Rock “a genre deeply rooted in British Caribbean culture that helped shape an entire generation, is something that should be celebrated, not criticised. More importantly, it should be encouraged. Lovers Rock is global. From Asia to Africa, the Americas and beyond, the genre continues to be played and appreciated worldwide. It remains one of reggae’s most downloaded and enduring subgenres. The British Caribbean community, alongside the English audience who embraced reggae culture, played a huge role in helping put reggae music firmly on the map. While history tells us there were social tensions between communities in those early years, that never stopped people from connecting through the music. My Boyz Beatz are three individuals from Birmingham in the West Midlands, UK, who established their own independent record label. From my understanding, Grantley Haynes, also known as GT, is the driving force behind much of the collaboration and creative direction behind the group. They have introduced fresh production techniques and modern rhythmic reggae sounds into their music, while carefully preserving that unmistakable British Lovers Rock identity. They already have some excellent tracks under their belt. Their interpretation of the Peter Hunnigale classic “Won’t You Be My Lady” is definitely worth listening to. What stands out most about My Boyz Beatz is their commitment to working with younger artists on some of these timeless Lovers Rock classics. In doing so, they are helping bring fresh talent into the UK reggae industry, nurturing an entirely new generation of artists, while at the same time keeping Lovers Rock firmly in the spotlight. Amazing talent… and a reminder that Lovers Rock continues to evolve while staying true to its roots. #My BoyzBeatz # Mis Aliya #UK Reggae # Lover’s Rock # Fresh Beatz
