It is super negative and that content makes me feel worse about myself because I feel like there’s no hope 😭

It's a really valid point: creating an enemy and making them your whole profile. But it's a cop out and I admire you for not doing it. I try never to do it either but never put it together so succinctly. Thank you.

It’s 1000% a “us vs them” cop out, similar to assuming all neurodivergent people are safe/good —which both are simply not true.

I appreciate your honest and rational content and I’m learning so much, considering I’m diagnosed so late in life. This resonates because I’m guilty of getting excited when I can say, hey that’s me, that explains this about me. But at the same time, I preach about the dangers of absolutes and saying “all men/women, all this group of that” because it’s just not true and I’m proof of that. Ty for articulating this so well and giving us the language for it.

This is class! Part of it is this technique (group blaming) is as old as the hills and really negative plus I agree that not yo do it to others as it’s been done to me. Far too much of it in society and it can be reinforced via social media. Thanks for the reminder. 🙏🏻

sadly problems in all communities doesn’t make it right and warps perspective of those in our own that deflect their behaviour and use that for further manipulated behaviour by the ND to then say it’s because the autism for example. sadly toxic people exist in all as much as the validation of others feeling the same. I stick to my all over random posts i don’t care about popularity i just do me xx

Yes, absolutely, 100% agree. I think it’s ok to say ‘people when currently acting in support of what is considered ‘normal’’ (which could be autistic or not autistic people, and could be people with adhd or people without adhd etc) can sometimes do xyz harmful thing…. But not ‘neurotypical people do xyz destructive thing’. It’s not true or accurate or helpful, and as you say, is just another form of prejudice. I prefer not even to use the term ‘neurotypical’ and more to talk about ‘norms around what is considered neurotypical’ - and how these norms may be easy or less easy to fit in with depending on whether you’re autistic or not / whether you have ADHD etc / other potential forms of being neurodivergent etc. Because really those ‘norms’ are false ideas / constructs and harm everyone, just some people considerably more than others :)

yes!! I honestly have unfollowed many because of this. the "us" against "them" thinking and yes I too get the thought behind it but I find the hypocrisy just so ironic. thank you for adressing this... it makes me sad people are desperate to make everyone feel like they felt for years instead of knowing better!
