I’m really not the best at explaining things when I’m in the moment, so here’s a bit to add on to my last few videos. Not everyone has to agree with my approach. If I expected that, I would never put my business on the internet. We’re all adults and can have a discussion. I’m always open to learning and I will never say that I’m always 100% correct, just as any trainer should, so let’s talk if you’ve got any ideas! I’m human… trying to help save dogs from being euthanized due to behavioral issues. Anyway, here’s my perspective. When working with overall aggressive/ violent/ dangerous (whatever term you want to use), keeping a dog under threshhold isn’t always an option, nor is it really safe to always expect an owner to do so. I believe in corrective training as well as reward based training and believe it or not, with most of the aggression I work with, I primarily use rewards/ counter conditioning to change those uncomfy feelings into positive ones. I want every dog I work with to be comfortable around their triggers so that they’re no longer triggers to begin with, just as much as I want to stop their forward aggression that stems from them being stuck in a survival mode. End goal is helping a dog achieve balance, to help them realize that no one’s trying to hurt them, and that becoming aggressive everytime something makes them uncomfy isn’t necessary, not is it allowed. It’s about helping them finally feel harmony in their lives when they’ve spent so much time fighting.
