On July 29–30, Russia launched 358 missiles and drones at Ukraine. One cruise missile entered Poland. Poland’s Operational Command detected an unidentified object over Poland at 03:40, moving west, and sent a duty F-16 to identify it. At 03:46, before identification was completed, it disappeared from radar. It left a crater about 10m across and 5m deep in a rapeseed field near Tarnawa-Kolonia, around 100km from the Ukrainian border. The defence ministry later identified it as a Russian Kh-101 cruise missile. Poland published when tracking was lost, but not the impact time. Private footage appears to show the explosion shortly before warning sirens began, though the camera clock has not been independently verified. Sirens sounded at 03:50 across 17 counties, but the Government Security Centre has not named them. Residents near the impact site said they heard no siren. No Alert RCB reached their phones. RCB began preparing an alert, then stopped because the air threat had been withdrawn. It notified PAP, TVP and Polish Radio around 04:00. A spokesman for the Lublin governor said procedures worked correctly. Later Donald Tusk said the rules should change so residents receive a message after the danger has passed. During the Russian drone incursion in September 2025, RCB sent an alert, though it concerned the ongoing neutralisation operation and reporting fallen objects. Poland still uses location-based SMS rather than cell broadcast, which can simultaneously warn compatible phones in an area without mobile internet and despite silent mode. Siren-only warnings remain inaccessible to many deaf and hard-of-hearing people. Poland tracked the missile. It did not warn people’s phones.
