@ancientbenin: Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Erediauwa (r. 1979–2016) during the Ugie Emobo ceremony. Beside the Oba is Chief Nosakhare Idubor Isekhure, the Isekhure of Benin, holding the sacred ancestral Ukhurhe known as Urhototo. The Urhototo is regarded as the most sacred and powerful Ukhurhe in the Benin Kingdom. Through it, the Oba derives his sacred authority from Erinmwin’Idu, reaffirming the divine legitimacy of the Benin throne and the spiritual continuity of the monarchy. For this reason, the Isekhure of Benin bears the appellation “Ukhurhe Ododo N’Ovienkae,” meaning “the sacred staff that no ordinary man can carry” or “the sacred staff that no subject may wield.” The title reflects the exclusive custodianship of the Urhototo and the unique spiritual office of the Isekhure as the chief priest of the Benin Kingdom. #AncientBenin #IduDescendants #AncientBeninPlus
