The interaction between former NFL quarterback Jim Everett and sports talk host Jim Rome is famous for an on-air physical confrontation in 1994, which occurred after Rome repeatedly mocked Everett by calling him "Chris" (a reference to female tennis star Chris Evert). Rome used the nickname to imply Everett was "soft" and avoided physical hits on the field, particularly after a play known as the "phantom sack" in the 1989 NFC Championship game. Jim Everett went after Jim Rome on live TV 26 years ago: 'Seems ... During an interview on the ESPN2 show Talk2 on April 6, 1994: Everett warned Rome that he would not tolerate being called "Chris" to his face and that Rome should "take a station break" if he did it again. Rome ignored the warning and said "okay, Chris", at which point Everett flipped the table between them and shoved Rome to the floor before others intervened. No legal action was taken, but the incident became one of the most infamous moments in sports television history. Rome has since apologized for the incident, calling it a mistake and part of being "young and stupid" at the time, and the two have never spoken since. The event led to an unwritten rule on Rome's show that no one should refer to a football player by a female name. #JimEverettVsJimRome #DontCallMeChris #ChrisEverett #JimRome #JimEverett
