Guys Australia is a part of the AFC (Asian Football Confederation) tbh I don’t really know why they did that (I guess for more competition), but either way, that’s the way it is, but that doesn’t change their geographical location in any way.

There’s a lot of people here that don’t understand the fact that Australia qualified from AFC qualifiers bcs they’re choose to compete in AFC rather than in Oceania

For everyone confused about Australia, before 2026, the Oceanic Football Federation did not have a single guaranteed spot in the World Cup...they only had 1 inter-fed playoff spot. So even if Australia topped Oceania, to acutally qualify they'd have to play a team from another confederation. They would be sometimes up against countries like Uruguay, Argentina and Scotland (which Austalia lost to all). So in 2006 they made the move to join the Asian Football Federation which had 5 guaranteed spots, a much clearer qualifying path. Now, in 2026, Asia has 8 spots + 1 inter-fed playoff and Oceania has 1 guaranteed spot + 1 inter-fed playoff. Australia can choose to stay in the AFC or they can go back to OFC. But as it stands now, Australia is pretty comfortable qualifying under the AFC.
