@fitplantguy: Venus flytraps get supplemental nutrients from the insects they digest, so they do not need fertilizer. In fact, fertilizer can burn their roots because they evolved in nutrient-poor bog soils. So what do they like? Low-nutrient soil, lots of direct sun, and consistently wet conditions. They’re often grown sitting in a shallow tray of distilled, rain, or reverse-osmosis water. And despite being sold in glass containers, they usually do poorly in closed terrariums because they need strong light, airflow, seasonal changes, and a winter dormancy period.
