Released in 1972 on Stax Records, I’ll Play the Blues for You is one of Albert King’s finest and most enduring recordings. Blending his searing electric blues with the deep grooves of Memphis soul, the album features backing from the Bar-Kays, members of the Isaac Hayes Movement, and the Memphis Horns, creating a rich, sophisticated sound that never overshadows King’s expressive guitar playing or commanding vocals. With its blend of soul and blues, the album is great from start to finish. The edition I own is a new reissue from @Craft Recordings as part of its Bluesville collection.
