@usbishops: The pallium is a band of white wool worn over the shoulders by metropolitan archbishops. It signifies their pastoral responsibility to care for their flock and their communion with the Holy Father. Pope Leo XIV imposes it each year on the Feast of Sts. Peter and Paul. On June 29, four U.S. archbishops will receive the pallium from Pope Leo XIV in St. Peter's Basilica: Most Rev. James Golka, Archbishop of Denver, Most Rev. James Checchio, Archbishop of New Orleans, Most Rev. Mark Rivituso, Archbishop of Mobile, and Most Rev. Ronald Hicks, Archbishop of New York. For Archbishop Golka, the pallium is "a symbol of great oneness and tenderness between the Holy Father and his bishops," and a sign of the shepherd who keeps the flock together and would lay down his life for it. Archbishop Checchio points to its meaning as a sign of unity with the Holy Father, one he hopes will further energize his ministry.
