@melissajbyrnex: Not all narcissists are bred from narcissists. This is the theory I have as to why my mother is one.

I completely agree, my mother is very much like this and my grandparents are the most kind and gentle people you could ever meet, sometimes I wonder where she came from. Thank you for sharing, Mel. It's comforting to know there are people who understand what it's like to go through this and I'm glad you're doing better now.

you cannot love your children too much. you can spoil them to the point where they think they can do not wrong. Boundaries are the issue, you can be firm with your children and make sure they take responsibility for their own actions, whilst still loving them with your whole heart.

what you describe is also abuse and neglect. I wouldn't call it 'loved too much'. your grandma was projecting her guilt and anxiety on your mother.

But did your Grandmother know about how she abused you?

This kind of person reminds me of Veruca Salt from Willy Wonka. Loving parents who gave her everything but she was a spoilt brat!

It’s incredible how similar our stories are Mel, my Mother had a carbon copy childhood to yours and also fell in the middle of three with a brother and sister who are nothing like her.

It's interesting that your mum had medical trauma.. My mum did too, she had arthritis growing up and was in and out of hospital during her childhood. My mum and my uncle always claim that their parents were so kind and gentle, so it was confusing to me that my mum wasn't. From what I heard, my mum was coddled like crazy and my uncle wasn't.

I definitely agree that this can be the case. It’s funny because I’d just assumed that your mum was born without hearing. I don’t know why 🤷‍♀️

This is a very similar situation to mine. My mum’s mum also had huge guilt and never, ever challenged her. Really resonate with this 🖤

You explain things so eloquently. That explains my mother, she was an only child and spoilt. She didn't like my relationship with my grandmother it was a very bad triangle 🥰

This is so true! My dad’s youngest sister (3 sisters) is narcissist. Because she was the youngest youngest of 4 my grandparents doted on her and she never got told no and got everything she wanted and no one ever holds her accountable for her own actions. She is behaving the worst she’s ever been since my grandma passed. I could share so much of what she’s said and done! She’s delusional!
