The canyon is dangerous because of a false river bed that sits on top of huge under water boulders that sit on the real canyon floor.

Peoples think the Kern River is a joke but it's No joke. The people who drown is usually out of towners. They don't give it the respect it deserves. it has a strong currant. if you don't panick and stay in the middle, keep ur feet in front of you don't fight the current wait till there's a calm beach spot and swim towards it to climb out. Never hang onto branches or you'll get tangled in the branches underneath and drown. People float it all the time. Just be careful.
