I got a bachelor in nursing, got over 5000 clinical hours, and advantage being non traditional and not a checklist premed, tons of letters of recommendation from doctors, charge nurses and professors

Why don't they eliminate the extra schooling and let people start straight into Medical school? sounds like a waste of time and money for an already extremely long curriculum.

I’m already 30. Both kids will be in school soon. Have you heard of any doctors that started later than most? I would need extra school time to get science credits before med school. 🥲

As a side note, you will be paying thousands of extra dollars during undergrad if you do decide to go with a major outside of the sciences since those classes won’t be applicable towards your degree

Also…. You should have a back up employable degree…. Cuz what if you decided you don’t want to do medicine OR you couldn’t get into med school? Keep your options open. You have no idea how you will feel from day 1 freshman year to graduating senior year.

Triple boarded MD here. I majored in political science. :) most of my college classmates who went to med school also majored in non-science: English, religion, history.

Don't Miss That Radiology :
I was a psychology major who worked in the sleep 😴 lab but I took a lot of extra science classes that weren’t required but prepared me for medical school—biochemistry is a must!!

How it works in the US? You do 4 years of like general subjects and then apply for med school or business school or whatever? Is this right after high school?
