One year of freelancing took me where a 9-to-5 would've taken 10–15 years. In 2024 I was commuting to a bank head office in Karachi, losing 4–5 hours a day to traffic, certain it wasn't the life I wanted. So I taught myself video editing and set up my Upwork and Fiverr profiles in June 2024. First Fiverr client in July. First Upwork client in August. By October I'd quit my onsite job and started a remote one. When the remote startup laid off 90% of its team in January 2025, I didn't go back — the work had grown so much I brought my siblings and a couple of others onto it. In one year, those two platforms alone brought in Rs 1.5 crore. It wasn't easy. 14–18 hour days, working US hours, sleeping through the daytime, missing events and functions.
