@modamensch: i reject "dressing for your body type" and other forms of restrictive style advice that imply you're doing your body a disservice by dressing in certain ways. fashion is meant to be a positive experience, not a negative one #fashion #styleadvice #style #FashionAdvice #personalstyle style advice, fashion advice, dressing for your body type
As a “larger” women, I hate when someone says, “you’re very brave for wearing that”. 🙃 what does that suppose to mean? I’m brave for wearing something I feel good in?

Those ‘kibbe’ influencers are the worst cause they say the meanest things but cover it up behind their ‘science.’ And if it’s a universal system, why do we never see them criticizing men the same way?

Acknowledging my body dysphoria has taught me more how I like to be dressed than attempting to follow fashion advice ever has

I found an A line midi dress in a thrift store and it was perfect for a warm breezy day, not a waistline in sight! I felt amazing.

I’ve always hated the “just dress for your body type” line, and I never would’ve found my preferred style if I listened to it 🙂↔️

As a man whose body type is not the norm, it's hard to look at fashionable clothes so I sympathize completely. That said if you can get it to work who cares if you don't look like other people that wear it; you look like you and that's exactly how you should look. You are gorgeous in your own unique way! 🥰

I’m unlearning alot of ‘rules’ for fashion and trying to find looks that I consistently feel really good in. I know what I like style-wise, it’s just trying to implement that into my wardrobe without that inner voice trying to tell me I’m ‘not allowed’ to do that

This is why it’s impossible to be in fashion communities that aren’t alternative (and even then it’s still prevalent) because some fashion obsessed people are some of the most fatphobic and racist mfers you will ever meet and put looking good over being a good person 😭

I've been struggling with this as someone with a masculine body who dresses feminine. Unfortunately despite trying to dress the way i want, regaurdless of common advise, I cant deny certain styles I want to look good on me just dont. And a lot of advise in how to dress in those styles as my body type is just to wear a oversized version of that outfit. Do you have any advise for not being happy with the style compromises offered by stylists and not wanting to just take the advise of dressing for your body type? It feels like I just would have to custom order ever garment ever. Im sick of being told to stick to street wear.

I agree with your take, but It’s so hard for me. There are so many clothing items and dresses I would love to wear, but without carefully curated style choices, I become more clocky and unsafe (I’m trans). So I’ve accepted the clothing styles I “can” wear and do like them.

I genuinely believe the only times flattering can ever be appropriate and not low-key backhanded is about coloration ("the color of that dress really flatters your undertone/eye color/hair color/etc") or when someone is saying it about themselves. I feel like many of my clothes are flattering to my body, but almost none of them are in a way that emphasizes the beauty standard for bodies. I feel like my clothes flatter my body when my waistband scoops under my belly and over my hips because I enjoy the way that feature looks on me regardless of what conventional standards might say about it emphasizing my belly too much or in the wrong way. (I don't mean this as bean soup, just adding on my thoughts 💚)

OMG love this. Think about how “flattering “ is literally about external validation. It’s literally : Would someone else give you compliments?

Love this, I think this is what lead my to a lot of Japanese brands. Dressing for fun and self expression rather than to look hot by society standards.
