C-SPAN's "Ceasefire" — Democratic foreign policy expert Nayyera Haq and Republican foreign policy expert Kirsten Fontenrose discuss the Trump administration's approach to the Iran war, which began with military pressure and which the administration now hopes to end through economic pressure. Ms. Fontenrose said the "economic strangulation" approach is meant to make Iran "less able, progressively, to fund a rebuild of their three pillars of foreign policy: their nuclear program, their missile and drone program, and their proxy militias." Asked whether that strategy would work, Ms. Haq said that economic pressure on Iran is "not new," and that "ultimately, the people of Iran have suffered." She criticized the president's "unilateral action" to strike Iran and said the country's new leaders "don't have much of an incentive in their worldview to do anything different than what they've been doing so far."
