@brycepatingre: The World of Black Film by Ashley Clark is a book recommendation worthy to all cinema fans, new and old. Ashley Clark, the curatorial director at Criterion, provides a cinema corrective with this book – expanding the film history often taught in film schools to include global movements from the L.A. Rebellion to contemporary African cinema. It is a vital resource meant to introduce audiences to the films of the global Black diaspora. The World of Black Film: A Journey Through Cinematic Blackness in 100 Films is available now. All photos and video clips used under fair use for educational purposes. #filmtok #ashleyclark #blackcinema #filmhistory #filmcriticism
Im a fan of the film ‘Losing Ground’ by Kathleen Collins. It a great rumination black femininity, and how it’s often tied to the people around them, not themselves. Black cinema is a huge is a huge blindspot for me as well, so I will definitely be checking this book out.

It's quite weird to me to put "black film" as a category as if it made sense to put together Blacula and Le Wazzou Polygame. Just because both directors are black. Putting African movies together, why not, I can see why it makes sens, historically, economically, etc., adding american ones to the mix just feels wrong.
