Grief is already a difficult time to traverse. Unfortunately there are people out there who see that as an opportunity to take advantage of those who are just trying to survive. One such person crossed my path through a FB group I was in. She had a website and showed other pieces she had made. Looking through her catalog I found the perfect ring. I trusted her and sent a hefty deposit. There were no alarm bells to warn me about what would happen next. Just a couple of days after the deposit had cleared all communication from her stopped. Desperate for answers I posted in that same FB group I found her in. To my horror and disappointment others shared that she had done the same to them. This person not only preyed upon my grief but also targeted others. Thankfully I was able to recover my money…but that still left me with no ring. After searching for someone else and the support of family and friends the answer became clear. Make the ring myself. That’s exactly what I did. It was scary, heartbreaking, yet cathartic to take pieces of her and make something as beautiful as she had been. Everyone who saw it expressed the notion of me making jewelry for others so that they, too, could keep their loved ones near. That’s how Forever Lilac Mementos was created. Out of the understanding that greif is universal, the compassion for others traveling their own greif journey, and the determination to not let another person be taken advantage of during their greif. Please know that I see it as an absolute honor in being the one you trust with something so sacred and take solace in knowing you will be treated with respect and compassion during their whole process. You loved them in life…now allow me to create a piece for you so you can carry them with you always. 🤍 #grief #griefjourney #memorialjewelry #loveandloss #memorialpiece
